The use of numbers from zero to twenty-three, along with the unique stitching of the neck tag, is one of the most iconic features of Maison Margiela's garments. They fit perfectly with the image and style of the brand, adding a layer of mystery since not many people know these numbers have meaning in marking different types of products. The circled zero on the neck tag means the Artisanal line, the type of collection that consists of extremely limited quantity pieces that are made with rare and time-consuming hand-processed materials that require traditional methods of creating. Each piece is made or reworked entirely by hand in Maison Martin Margiela’s in-house atelier in Paris. The time needed to make each item varies from 5 to 6 days. From its earliest days, the line has exploited the inherent qualities of found materials. With exacting craftsmanship, the old matter is regularly overdyed, embellished, and pieced together in new formations. This line was presented during the haute couture collections in Paris twice a year.

ABOUT MAISON MARGIELA
Martin Margiela is one of the most impactful fashion designers of all time. He graduated Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, the same one that iconic Antwerp Six attended. After graduating from university, the designer worked for two years at Jean Paul Gaultier. The Maison Margiela brand appeared on the global market in 1989.
